St. Jude Warrior Dash

I did another 5k a few weeks ago. It was the Warrior Dash Minnesota that sponsors St. Jude Hospital. A few of my family members did it last year and seemed to have a lot of fun with it. I signed up to do it this year with my mom. Because its 2012, the race was made up of 12 obstacles ranging from mud pits, and barbed wire to rope climbs and  balance beams.

My mom and I ran at noon and luckily it wasn't too hot. Everyone was super nice, but the race was VERY difficult. It was not only a 3.2 mile course, but it had these crazy hills in the course which made it even more difficult.

The race had two different locations where they took pictures, and a couple water stations, and after the race you received a metal, tshirt and a warrior hat. Pretty legit for the heavy cost of 75 dollars per person. After the race you are engulfed in a huge celebration with a DJ and music people, a bunch of competitions, showers, food and of course... BEER!

I had to work that night, so my mom and I pretty much had to leave right away. We took some time to use the "shower" which was some high intensity fire hoses then jumped in line to get to the buses to get shuttled to our cars.

Like I told many people, it is a race I just had to do, but I would never really need to go do it again to prove something. I am and always will be a WARRIOR!

30 Days• 300 abs

Hi all,

It's been awhile since I have posted. I'm working full time as a CSR, and it's tons of fun. I have been really busy, and haven't really disliked going.. so that's a huge plus. Other than that, I have been biking/rollerblading (when the weather permits, of course)... and... dun dun dun... 300 ab challenge.

Shannon @ http://www.lifeafteridew.com has posted some results, and she looks absolutely amazing, so I thought I would jump on board. I started (and as she states in her blog), days 1-4 were, excuse the language, BITCHY! It was horrible.. not because it was really that hard (I grew up quite athletic), but I felt like I was doing all of the moves wrong... Anyway, I took my measurements on day one, and after a week my stomach size didn't go down.. so it threw me off the trail, but I do intend of starting up again and doing it fully for 30 days.. and i'm going to go slow to make sure I do all of the moves correctly, so I am getting a full benefit. I really dislike my stomach.. it's the one part of my body i'm very self conscious about and I want to fix that.. anyway, I'm not going to post any photos of what I looked like before hand until I finish a full 30 days.. but keep on the look out for the update :)

I hope everyone's summer is going fantastic-- mine sure is!

Summer and Things!

A little update:

I may or may not have written on my blog in the past about searching for an internship. In order to graduate at my college, students have to land a 3 or 6 month internship to get "hands on experience". Well, as a Junior, I landed mine at a nice little company. I got hired at the beginning of May, and start this Monday! I will be working all the way through August, which is a week before I go back to school. I move into my apartment on June 1st. (Hopefully!) As you can see, everything is starting to fall into place.

Oh, and I have still been running a little bit. I have no idea how I finished that 10K race, because I am struggling to run 3 miles.. but I'm still doing it. Today, I ran when the weather was just below 90 degrees. It wasn't too bad, but I did walk up a hill. My mom biked along side of me. She motivates me to want to finish, no matter how much my brain is screaming to stop. I'm so lucky to have her.

Onto other news, I painted my nails tonight. Yes, I can be a little kid in some situations, because my nails are currently sporting some cute little minions from the movie Despicable Me.

I think they look great, do they not!?

Let's fight child obesity!

Any ideas what my title even means?

Yes, that is right!!! I did my first 10K EVER! Let's not forget to mention that during my training, I never ran a 10K to prepare myself.

So... a little update on the race:

It was called the Get In Gear 2k (fun run), 5k, 10k, and half marathon race to show awareness of child obesity. I was signed up for the 10K. With a few set backs of not wanting to train too hard, I just kind of was blah as the clock ticked to race day. Ironically, I woke up at 5:45 AM when I wasn't even really supposed to be up at 6:30 so I may have been a tad excited. The race I heard possibly brought in over 30 thousand people, I know that I for sure saw a bib that was in the 10,000s. It's the biggest 10K race in Minnesota, and 13th in the nation.. I think that gives you a little clue.

Although I was not prepared for this race and it was sleeting when we started.. it was literally flawless. It was the best I ever run. EVER.

I had three goals:

• Not to be the last person to finish.
• Run the whole 6.28 miles
• Actually enjoy the run, because I have a tendency to forget about how fun it is supposed to be, and dread it.

I'm proud to say that I accomplished all three of my goals!! I ran the WHOLE way without having the necessary training, I enjoyed the whole thing, and there was 500 PEOPLE behind me!!! Seeing now that I can finish a 10K no problem, it just gets me that much more excited about signing up for my next race! Hell ya!

Race Setup:
The race was around a nice park in the cities of Minnesota. They had shuttles going into the park because they had roads closed and stuff. Preferred One was the biggest sponsor of the race.. they had lots of water (one check point half way through my run that I did not even drink!) The half marathoners did not split off from us 10K's until about 5 miles in, so it was cool to see some really great runners. I heard they had pictures taken, and they called names as people came across the finish line. Bibs had trackers on them, so they emailed us our stats. After the race they had a bunch of things going on, but I was cold, wet, and tired so I grabbed a water and made my way out of the park.

I loved the experience and can't wait until next time!

Have you geocached?

Hello all!

so.. my aunt becky told my mom and I about this thing called geocaching. It is basically a hide-n-seek game that is universal. What you do is go on this website: http://www.geocaching.com/. You will have to create an account.. (don't worry, I don't think you need anything but the basic account), after that you just type in your postal code, and it will show you geocaches that are near your town or in your town. Click on a specific one listed, and it will give you coordinates for a GPS. At this point you need an actual gps, or a gps on your phone. Punch in the coordinates to said gps, and hunt away.

The geocache website gives you different specifics such as how big the geocache is, and maybe the owner or "placer" of that geocache will give a hint to exactly where to look after you're near the location. Size hint will be anywhere from micro to large I believe. Micro is about the size of a film canister. It also lists the difficulty of the find. Another helpful thing is to look for how many smileys you see at the end of the page. That explains how many people have found it.

Anyway, after you find the geocache you log it on the website by clicking the log a find button on each geocache.

If you get confused, on the geocache website, there is a "geocache 101" page that helped me a lot.

My mom and I tried to do geocaching, but there was nothing close enough that would be worthy of a first time try. I think we are going to try again soon! I plan to take pictures of sites as we find them. I think after we find our first one, it will be a lot easier. Anyway, I think if would be fun, to go on a vacation and be like "oh, let's go look for a geocache!!!" (say in like... africa) keep in mind this a UNIVERSAL game!

Geocache away young followers!

run.

yo.

I went for a run yesterday. It was the best I've done outside thus far. I ran 3.5 miles. Which is .3 further than I have done before. I know it's not a huge leap, but I am happy. (:

Off to enjoy the last part of my spring break.

Nice kicks! Where you get 'em?

Look at my new kicks! When I got home for spring break my mom said she wanted to get me new running shoes. I was ecstatic enough to know that I was getting new ones, then I find out we are going to The Running Room to get them. Umm, this equals a very happy girl.

I was super nervous about going to the Running Room because I am always concerned that people are going to judge me on the way I look.. and since this is strictly a running store, it's for people who... run. haha! To my delightful surprise the guy that analyzed my feet was the sweetest runner I have EVER met. He helped me pick out "cute" but good shoes for my feet, and he exclaimed "I know how it is, I got 3 girls at home that need cute shoes." He was the first person in a running themed situation that I didn't feel like judged me based on what I looked like.

Let's just say, i'm not a size 0, blonde girl, that runs an 8 minute mile ;)

I'm content where I am now. I am finally home for spring break. I have 8 more days at home.

I ran 3.2 miles around my neighborhood today. It was delightful on the way out, but the second half (the way home) was hilly, and the wind was a bit gusty at times. None the less, it was perfection. 3 more miles outside till I reach my goal of 6.2 miles (just in time for race day, April 28th!)

PS. Let's not forget it's going to be 60 degrees tomorrow!

it's never been this easy!

Hi!

As I said in the last post, I finally got back to running.

So I did a 2 mile run, and I was really worried after that because it was difficult to complete.

HOWEVER, I did a 4.07 mile run!!! I don't know how I did this, but I only started getting tired around 3.5 miles, so decided to stop right after 4 miles. I've been really nervous about being able to get back to where I was before I stopped running, but I never thought it would be that easy! I am a happy girl!

Onto other news... We reached 58 degrees yesterday, so naturally I ran outside. I ran with one of my very good friends, Sara, and we went around the lake. It was so beautiful!

Helpful tip:
follow the tip that says to dress as if it was 10 degrees warmer.. because oh my.. I was dieing in my fake under armour!

After that run, I took a break and got a nice dinner with a few friends (Allie and Megan), and then decided to go for another run on the treadmill. I ran for 2.5 miles.

Today is going to be a rest day, just because I have a lot to get done.

1. A club meeting, where I hope the editor doesn't shoot down my re-vamped article!

2. Photo lab hours for my advertising photography. Who woulda thought that shooting a Spam can would be this hard? As a friend would say... "damn spam..."

3. Study for one of my midterms.. (getting nervous)!

How is everyone doing? I'm sure living and loving life!

Finally!

Howdy!

I am in an ultra good mood today. I finally got to running again. It is a joyous day. I know that I am not nearly as in shape as I was the last time I ran (4.5 miles), but I did successfully run 2.2 miles, and could have gone a little bit longer. The only thing that was bothering me was my bad ankle. It is getting better, but it is still not perfect.

Another part of good news. I weighed myself last night before my run, and only was up 3 lbs from the last time I weighed myself (before my last run, that feels like eons ago). I don't feel too bad about that!

I hope everyone is feeling as fantastic as I am. I can't wait for the weekend. I know I have to work one of the two days, but that's fine!

The Missing Ingredient.

Hi hi!

Well as the title says, there is a missing ingredient. I will explain this.

Background:
I was doing really good with the running.. like a month ago. haha! I even did a 4.5 mile run at one point, which was mentioned in an earlier post. However, I got really busy with lacrosse practice, and I didn't really want to push myself too hard where I was running and then going to lacrosse. I did that for a week, and I was completely gone by the end of the week. Just completely exhausted. Needless to say, the next week I didn't really run at all. I promised myself at the end of that week that the next week I would run the days I didn't have lacrosse practice. Well guess what happened?

Next:
I flippin' got injured at a lacrosse game at a tournament. I rolled my ankle, and wasn't able to walk, let alone, run during that whole week. Now it's been like 3-4 weeks since I have run, and I have no idea how to convince myself how to get back into it. Now, anyone who knows me, knows that i'm not really the type to be totally into running, nor would I be good at it, but I really really miss it. I may not be fast (I run a 10:30 mile), and I may look ridiculous running with my beat red face and breathless breathing, but I do miss it. There's that part in me that just wants to get back to it, but at the same time I have one thing going through my head.
1. I'm going to go and not be able to run as far as I did when I stopped, or I will be incredibly slow.

Future:
I have a 10K race on April 28th. That's about 2.5 months from now. How the heck am I going to show up to that, and run it successfully if I can't get myself to run? Plus the fact that I was only running on a treadmill, and I don't care what anyone says, it's completely different than running outside. If I start running strictly on the treadmill for the next 2.5 months, even if I was running 6.2 miles, I won't be ready for that race, and I don't want to fail epically. So for now, I am hoping that my ankle is completely healed real quick, and for warm enough weather where I can run outside, because I don't want to break my goal. I want to run that race, and not be dead last, and I want to run the whole thing.

Maybe I should go running tonight...? hahaha. That's a good joke, right?

Quick and dirty post coming up!

Watermelon nails!

Water marble nails!

1. Fill small bowl/cup of room temp water
2. Paint nails with base coat- I did White.
3. Use scotch tape around nails (easier for clean-up)
4. Pick several colors: I picked hot pink, purple, blue, orange, and another pink color.
5. Open each so it's a faster process.
6. Take each color and drop a dot of it into the water. (it should spread a little bit.
7. After you have desired colors in water take a needle and sketch a pattern in the watered nail polish.
8. Face nail down into water. Make sure the nail is completely submerged in water.
9. Take needle and trace it around the nail to pick up all extra nail polish in the water.
10. Pull nail out.
11. Let dry, and pull tape off.
12. After this is complete take nail polish remover and go around nails for any boo-boos!

Wait what? It's February?

Hi everybody!

Well, this week has been a little interesting when it comes to running. I haven't actually done any of my running plan. This is because I am one of the captains of the lacrosse team at my college. This last week we did "emergency practices" because we have a big game this coming Friday. We practiced Mon/Wed on the track at school. We did run, but it wasn't enough to count for my actual running plan. On Monday, I stayed after practice and ran 6 extra laps with a girl on the team, but still that wasn't enough.. I just couldn't force myself to keep going. I ran about 3ish miles. On Wednesday, I ran 2 miles with the team, and then did about 8 or 9 laps of sprinting/walking after practice. I still feel like that wasn't enough, but I couldn't get myself to keep going. At this point, I feel like I should be running 4 or 5 miles when I run. I had successfully run 4.5 miles at one point about 2 weeks ago which is a huge accomplishment, but that is why I feel like I should still be doing that. I have a race on April 28th, so I really need to get at it.

Anyway, on Tuesday we did P90X plyometrics. Holy moly is that difficult. The guy on that is CRAZY! On Thursday, we tried to do the "shoulders and back" section on P90X, but did not realize it required weights.. so we quit that within 5 minutes, and one of the girls ran an ab workout. On Friday, we had our first real practice where we practiced 3 hours. I lost my voice, because I had to yell over the international soccer players and the music in the gym. But it was a really great practice because the girls really improved from the first part of the practice to the end, it's great to see our hard work pay off. So, hopefully our game goes well this Friday.

On other news, I am going to Nebraska on the 24th for a lacrosse tournament. I don't get out often, so I am super excited to see another part of the United States. There isn't much else going on, I feel like I am being bad at eating again. I am back at school so of course there is more commons food... which is bad, but hopefully my weight isn't back to where it was.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Saturday, Saturday... Gotta get down on... Saturday?

Hi to all!

Well, I am back into a routine. Not that I didn't have one over winter break. Anyway, I am back at school. It's the end of week one, and oh boy.. has it been busy! I am taking 5 classes, and working, and about to get back into captaining lacrosse. It's gonna be crazy because most of my classes are very.. how shall I put it.. Hands on? Yes, hands on. It's not enough for any of those classes to show up and learn for 2 hours. In the near future I can see myself spending hours in the lab after classes. It does sound kind of cool though to put that much effort into my work. I am excited!

So a recap:
• Start to drive back to school and spin out on an exit to the highway. (woah, scary shit.)
•Moved (sorta) back in my dorm room on Sunday.

•Classes started Monday (Marketing, and Prepress Design Class)+ Work+ Cross training

•Another new set of classes on Tuesday (Postpress, Capstone, and Adv. Pub. Photography)
•Wednesday brought same classes as Monday+40 minute hilly work out.

•Thursday had the same classes as Tuesday.

•Friday.. WHEW finally the weekend. One class, work, some chores, movie with friends, workout at midnight? My workout was a 50 minute run, and I am proud to say that I ran 4 1/2 miles! I am just over a mile and a half away from my goal.
• And today is Saturday. I got up and got lunch with some new somewhat oldish friends. It's always great to catch up. I took a nap, and then tonight brings a 30 minute easy run and some homework.. maybe laundry. (haha doubt the laundry.)

As you can see.. I have been busy. Now, let us imagine pulling 4 hours a week, maybe more, dedicated to Captaining the Lacrosse girls! It's gonna be a busy, but very rewarding semester. I. Am. Ready.

How's everyone doing with their resolutions? I am still going strong with the working out (obviously), and the being a more positive person is going well too, but I do need to rant sometimes!

Etiquette: Without the cool French accent!

Howdy all!

Thought I should update today. First of all, Happy Friday! I go back to school Sunday, so that is exciting! So, as I said in my last post "Falling off of the bandwagon", I fell off about a week ago, and this week was catch up game. Which by the way, is probably not healthy for someone who is not used to running everyday. I ran Monday like my training plan said, then Tuesday I did my first catch up, Wednesday as schedule then Thursday finally officially caught up... Then today like scheduled! Yes, that is running everyday! I am so looking forward to Sunday, (which is my day off!)

Anyway that is not why I am writing. Today, I had to run at the gym/track. It is much too cold to run outside! Unfortunately, I am going to consider myself an advanced runner only one time... TONIGHT. I saw a lot of disrespectful things on the track today... so I thought I should write some things I noticed, that are just not okay. And, believe me... I know it is the beginning of January. We see a lot of runners/walkers that typically wouldn't be out and about any other day except the first month of the year. If you get what I am sayin'!

So here we go... Etiquette of the track:

1. If you walk, it is considered respectful to stay in the inner parts of the track-- and no, this doesn't mean lanes 3, 2, and 1 when there are only 4 lanes. This means 2 and 1, or if you really want to be nice, just stay in lane 1. This is so that faster walkers, and runners can pass you.

2. Running/walking on a track is kind of like driving on a multiple lane road... ALWAYS, and I mean always look behind you before you pass someone. There may be someone in your "blind spot". When there is someone right behind you, you don't try to pass someone in the fourth lane meaning you are slowing down the person that is right on your tail. It's not only dangerous, but EXTREMELY disrespectful.

3. Before taking children to the track-- teach them above rules, and keep your eyes on them. Let me just say, the kids are disrespectful because they don't know, but parents have no reason to be like that. Children should not be able to roam around anywhere, and weave around runners and walkers. It's obnoxious, and hard for me to keep running a pace during my training.

Okay, I am kind of done ranting. So, as you can see I most likely did not have a great run. The kids/parents that were disrespectful tonight actually didn't throw off my pace for the most part.. I pretty much kept it the same as I do any other night. I just think that maybe some novice runner will actually come across this blog, and learn a thing or two. I hope I did my duty of bringing something good to the world!

Falling off of the bandwagon

Okay so.. I have been pushing this post off.

One of my runs a week ago was a hill run.. I decided to go to another town, because I know they have CRAZY rolling hills. I was feeling so good about my weight loss at that point that I really wanted to push myself. I started at a little park, and I ran for 25 minutes up and down hills, and then turned around and ran 25 minutes back to the park. Not to say I didn't stop a few times. I mean.. these hills were bigger than anything I will most likely see @ the Warrior Dash this summer. Anyway, the run felt great. I finished off with 5x100 strides. I was super proud of myself, and even went down . 3 lbs the next day when I weighed myself! (any accomplishment is an accomplishment!) haha!

Anyway, my next run was two days later.. I believe I managed to do that one. It was a very much less high impact. It was a simple 30 or so minute run I think. I just kind of went this way and that... However, that's where I went BLAH! 2 days after that I was supposed to do a 35 minute run on hills, and run slightly harder on the up hills. Too bad my work schedule didn't work out with the schedule at the gym, and it was the coldest day we've had in a long time. Naturally, I didn't complete that run, but wrote down what I was supposed to do, so that I can "catch up" on my training.. Two days later, yet again.. I missed my cross training work out. I had planned to do it.. but I had so many other things I wanted to do. So, I promised myself that after my mid-afternoon nap that I would hop on the bike despite the cold weather. Well, I woke up and ran to get stuff on (yes, I was actually going to do it).. I look outside the window, and there it is. That disgusting white fluffy stuff + a little bit of ice. Unfortunately, I had to go to work a few hours after that... So I had no chance of actually doing that work out.

so there is it.. Falling off of the bandwagon. I am officially 3.5 months since I really started running.. 6.5 months since I first started the Couch to 5K training plan, and I finally fell off the wagon.

That right there my friends is a dirty dirty post. This is why I just got motivated to actually complete my run today, so I must get ready and head out. (hopefully the weather is somewhat decent!)

Just STRIDING along.

Well hello there folks!

So tomorrow (well.. today), I am back to work until Wednesday. Oh, the joys of working while being a college student. Very odd hours. Here, I am deciding to be a good girl and head to bed at 8 @ night, instead of my typical 12 or 1 am sleeping pattern I've had recently. Well, unfortunately in mid-deep-sleep, my boss calls me to ask if I would like to catch more hours next week. Bleh! Now, I am sitting here wide awake, and I have to be awake again in 6 hours. This is no good.

Anyway... I did a cross training work out on my bike because of the amazing weather here in Minnesota. Rode for 8.4 miles.

My work out tomorrow is as follows: 30 minute run, and 6X100m strides.

Ever wonder what strides are? Striding by definition is a much shorter distance run at a faster pace. Typically 10X100m.. Some say it should be a sprint, others say a controlled faster pace. I find myself doing something in the middle.

Do's and Don'ts of striding.

Do up the pace.
Don't lose form (mid-foot, accidental over-extention, etc.)
Do do (haha do do!) it after a medium run such as 30 minutes like I am going to do.
Don't do a stride if you are out of breath before you start: either, slow down your stride pace, or shorten it.. Maybe a 10X50m.

Who should do strides?
By all means anyone can start striding a long with me, however striding is for those of us that want to up the speed on our longer distance running.. It is meant for longer distance runners, or medium distance runners. I would say anyone doing anywhere from a 5K to a bazillion miles (just because I know some of you run way more than I can even imagine at this time.) Strides are meant for these types of people, because if done often enough and correctly, it will make it easier to run faster on longer runs.

Check out this site if you want more tips and tricks to striding.

Hope everyone had a good and safe Friday. Happy weekend!

Locked Out.

Wake up, get dressed, put shoes on, Ipod, cellphone... I then read a note. "Missy, going to a doctor appt. won't be back till later this afternoon." I nodded to myself, and walked to the front door for my run. Open the door, lock the door behind me and shut it. What's the missing part in this equation? Oh yeah, keys.

So, as you can see today I had a run. My training plan was to run 30 minutes on a rolling hill course. I started with a quick warm up walk. This is because there aren't many hills except for a good 10 minutes from my house.

I had done this course once before, so I knew how difficult it was for me the last time. The first hill put me to a walk at the top. Last night, as I lay awake thinking about my workout.. I told myself that there would be no walking at the top of that hill, and that's exactly what happened. I ran up that hill faster, and no walking came after. I made it 2x further than I did last time without walking.

I rounded the bend on the circle around town (approx. half way into the run..) something dinged in my mind.. Wait, did I read a note that the family is gone? Yes, I did. FUDGE! I don't have keys, and the spare is inside!?

I got back to my steps dehydrated, hungry and my mind was playing tricks on me. Fantastic.

Our roof was dripping water, and I was in desperate need of a drink after my run. I walked right over and treated my self to a snow slush cocktail courtesy of my roof. Classy, right? The next few minutes, were not nearly as exciting though. Forty minutes later, I heard the sound of crunching snow.

Anywho, that's how my day began. A crappy run, followed by being locked out.

I was extremely positive though. My Facebook status, in the midst of being locked out: "Well perfect!! Locked myself outta the house. Staying positive, though. Firstly, its nice weather.. secondly, I'm outside instead of inside being a couch potato.. right?"

...So when everything seems to being going wrong, how do you all beat out your mind?

Hope others enjoyed the wonderful weather that was brought to us. It reached 36 here.. Beginning of January! Yay!

Happy Tuesday! :)

Just felt like posting some pictures!

Decided to make a smoothie for breakfast with my new smoothie maker.

Ingredients:
1 cups apple sauce
1 sliced orange
3 ice cubes

Directions: Start by adding ice cubes, and blend for 20 seconds just to crush, add apple sauce to smoothie maker, and blend for 45 seconds, then add a slice of orange at a time, blending in between... and WALA! Perfect smoothie!

Here's to starting the New Year healthier... but I did have some ice cream after dinner tonight... WHOOPS! :)

Why yes, I did paint my toe nails like M&M's! Thank you Pinterest! If you don't know what that is, look it up on Google. Can we say new obsession? Gosh, I am such a college student...

Hope everyone is having a fantastic Tuesday night! It's my TV show night. Switched At Birth, and Teen Mom 2! Yip Yip Hoorah!

... and let's not forget tomorrow is my running day! 30 minutes of running a hilly course!

What's the difference??

howdy ho neighbors!

Decided to report in about the difference in running at that awesome gym, and running outside.

So here's the deal:

On this website, (www.trainer.active.com), I started a training program for running a 10K. Today, after an ugly wind/snow/ice storm last night, I was forced to gallop my way to Anytime Fitness with my cousin.. because it happened to be my running day. I was supposed to run 35 minutes, and then run hard and strong for 100m, walk 30 seconds, run 100m, walk 30 seconds, run 100m, walk 30 seconds.. and then finish with one last run of 100m.

Anywho.. that's not what this is about. Okay, so has anyone ever heard that running on a treadmill with an incline of 0%, is the equivalent to running outside downhill? I have read it multiple times on exercise articles.. and I don't agree with it 99.9%. So I did some research...

•Apparently, the gym is weather controlled.. meaning less wind, and the heat is just right.. Now, I do agree with this, and running against wind outside is a great workout... speaking from experience.. However, does that mean that just because I'm not running against wind, that I'm not getting as great of a workout?

• Gyms have these things called treadmills. I did some research on them as well... Because the treadmill is moving in a circular motion and you are running, virtually, in place, it is said to do some of the work for you, and that is why running at 0% incline is the same as running downhill. (As you can see, running downhill is naturally the best part of a workout outside, because it is effortless).

Those are the two main things I came across.. however, I am having trouble believing this stuff, because outside I run a straight mile about 45 seconds faster than what I can do in the gym, and outside is not weather controlled, especially living in Minnesota. I typically am out of breath by the end of my typical 3 miles, however I am not sweating profusely.. but today at the gym I am out of breath and my shirt is drenched in sweat.. (I know, I know.. doesn't sound that sweet).. haha.

So, now I leave it up to you my dear blog readers... If you so think that treads aren't as good of a workout, then by all means, up the incline by a percent, or make your workout just that much longer.. or stay outside.. But, to me I get a great workout on the tread, and so says my BURNING legs tonight.. and any workout is better than no workout.

Anyway, I hope everyone had a fantastical New Year's Eve, and are ready to start 2012 with a huge baaaaang!

Cheers!
